Areas We Serve
Physical Therapy in Georgetown
Hills, stairs, the towpath and the waterfront. Georgetown gives a body plenty to do, and it finds the weak link fast. We find it first, one-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit, and give you a plan that ends.
Georgetown is hills and stairs, and your body knows it
Take the stairs without thinking about the stairs.
Run the towpath because you feel like it, not because it is the only flat surface you trust. Walk down the hill without bracing on the way.
Those are the outcomes people come here for, and they are usually achievable once somebody works out what is actually driving the pain.
Hills are a test, not the cause
Going uphill asks a lot of your calves, glutes and hip control. Going downhill asks your quads and knees to absorb, over and over. Stairs do both, on one leg at a time.
So a Georgetown route will expose an imbalance you could carry unnoticed on flat ground for years. The hill is not the injury. It is the thing that found the injury.
One patient described what a proper look at it produced: "She assessed the injury, examining my gait, posture and a range of other contributing factors, and came up with a regimen of strengthening and stretching exercises that had me back on the trails within days." Matt S.
Runners, walkers, students and people who simply live on a hill see us for knee pain that is worse coming down than going up, hip pain that arrives late in a run, plantar fasciitis and foot or ankle pain from uneven ground, and sports injuries that did not settle with rest. Post-surgical work, including ACL rehab and pre and post-surgery care, is a large part of what we do.
You have already made the adjustments
You changed the route. You stopped the second lap. You started taking the long way to avoid the steps, and you have not mentioned it to anybody because it is not that bad.
Quietly rearranging your life around a problem is not toughness, it is the problem winning slowly. It is also completely normal. Most of our reviewers did exactly the same thing for years before they called.
What you get here
One-on-one with a licensed physical therapist, every visit. The same clinician sees you from the evaluation to the last session: Trupti Mehta, PT, MS, OCS, a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist trained in Maitland manual therapy, Mulligan Movement with Mobilization and the McKenzie Method.
The first visit is a cause-first evaluation: how you walk, how you load one side against the other, where the strength is missing, what the painful spot is compensating for. Treatment combines hands-on manual therapy with graded loading and sports rehab aimed at the thing you want back, whether that is a hill, a race, or the stairs at home.
Four phases: Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent. You will know which one you are in, what earns the next one, and when you are finished. Honest answers included, and honest referral out if it turns out not to be a physical therapy problem.
